At Capistrano Valley Christian Schools (CVCS), service and community are not just words; they are integral parts of our educational ethos. This was on full display recently when 6th-grade ambassador Lara Vaughn led a heartfelt initiative that truly embodies the spirit of giving back.
Lara, known for her dedication and leadership, rallied her peers and coordinated a significant community service project called the Sunshine Box Project. With a vision to bring joy and a bit of sunshine to children facing medical challenges, Lara’s project aimed to make a tangible difference in the lives of young patients at Miller’s Children’s Hospital.
Accompanied by several courageous mothers who volunteered alongside, Lara organized a gathering of 44 creative and big-hearted 6th graders. Together, they embarked on the mission to assemble 24 Sunshine Boxes. These boxes were thoughtfully filled with items donated by the generous families of CVCS 6th graders. Each box was crafted to bring a smile and provide comfort to its recipient, containing toys, games, art supplies, and other fun activities.
The Sunshine Box Project not only provided an opportunity for our students to learn about empathy and philanthropy but also allowed them to engage in hands-on service that has a direct impact on their community. Lara’s extensive effort in planning, organizing, and executing this project demonstrates remarkable maturity and compassion. Her passion for helping others and her ability to inspire her classmates truly made this service project a resounding success.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Lara, all the students involved, and the CVCS families who supported this cause. Your collective efforts have brightened the lives of many children, demonstrating the powerful impact of community service.
Lara’s story is a shining example of how young individuals can lead by example and make a significant difference in the world. At CVCS, we are incredibly proud of our students who continue to rise to the occasion, showing what it means to serve others and spread kindness.
Thank you, Lara, and everyone who made the Sunshine Box Project a beacon of hope and happiness for those in need.
